Sochan / Cutleaf Coneflower (Potted)

from $8.00
Size:

(Rudbeckia laciniata)

Sochan ticks all the boxes in the garden: native, edible, ornamental, pollinator friendly, and easy to grow. Native to most of North America, it is a vigorous, adaptable, beautiful perennial, perfect for wooded edges and wildlife gardens. Cooked like kale, leaves are delicious and historically an important staple food for Indigenous people, tasting like a cross between kale and celery. Plants grow tall and like to spread so need an appropriate spot to roam.

Hardiness zone: 3-9

Light: Full sun to shade, but will flower less in deep shade

Soil: Very adaptable but prefers rich, moist soil with pH 5.5-7

Mature size: 6-8’

Planting tips: Spreads by rhizomes, so plant in an area that can accommodate spread or will limit it. To control its aggressiveness, we plant it along the forest edge where it can only spread into full shade which limits its vigor.

We are unable to ship this product outside the contiguous US or to California.

All Winter ‘25-’26 orders are for dormant, bare root plants and will be shipped or available for pick up in March-April ‘26.
