Its dense habit, bright green leaves and white flowers make it a perfect ornamental shrub, but it really shines in snowy winters when the scarlet red stems pop out in the landscape. The white spring blooms are attractive to pollinators and the white berries are a good source of food for songbirds. Plants spread through horizontal branches along the ground, but these can be pruned back annually to maintain size.
