Red Osier Dogwood (Bare Root)

from $10.00
Size:

(Cornus sericea)

Native to eastern North America, Red Osier Dogwood is a fast grower and very adaptable. It can tolerate a range of soil conditions ranging from wet to dry but really thrives in moist soils. Its dense habit, bright green leaves and white flowers make it a perfect ornamental shrub, but it really shines in snowy winters when the scarlet red stems pop out in the landscape. The white spring blooms are attractive to pollinators and the white berries are a good source of food for songbirds. Plants spread through horizontal branches along the ground, but these can be pruned back annually to maintain size.

Hardiness zone: 2-7

Light: Full sun to part shade, but more sun will result in more flowers

Soil: Adaptable but prefers consistently moist to wet soils with pH below 6

Mature size: 7-10’ tall, 7-10’ wide

Planting tips: Consistent watering is crucial for newly planted trees to help minimize transplant shock and establish strong roots.

Growing tips: The red bark appears most vibrant on new stem growth, so prune this vigorous grower back in early spring to stimulate new bright red shoots.

We are unable to ship this product outside the contiguous US or to California.

All orders are for Fall 2025 and will be shipped in October-November. Ordering closes November 1st. Live plants will be shipped bare root and dormant.
