Grafted Plums
(Prunus spp.)
Black Ice: Cross between Cherry plum and Japanese plum. Very sweet, freestone, dark purple plums. Trees are compact with a beautiful natural form, making them easy to prune. Hardy and precocious.
Le Crescent: Hybrid Japanese x American plum. Beautiful, sweet golden fruits. Hardy and vigorous.
Toka: Hybrid Japanese x American plum. Small tasty fruits, also known as Bubblegum plum for their sweet reminiscent flavor. Nice growth habit, hardy and a very effective pollinator for neighboring plums.
All plums are 1-year whips, grafted on American Plum rootstock.
Flavor profile: Sweet, honey, juicy, aromatic
Hardiness zone: 3-8
Light: Full sun
Soil: Well-drained, organic soil with pH 6-7
Mature height: 10-15’
Spacing: 15-20’
Pollination: Plums require a genetically different tree for pollination. We currently offer Black Ice, Le Crescent, and Toka. All three of these varieties have compatibility and overlapping bloom time, so any two planted together should pollinate successfully. Alternatively, if you only have room for one tree, you can graft a single branch after establishment to act as a pollinator for the rest of the tree - we offer scions of all three cultivars for late winter shipping.
Planting tips: Plum rootstocks will sucker as the tree matures, so planting in an area that can be managed or mowed is recommended.
Growing tips: Maintain an open center tree form by pruning vertical water sprouts. Prunus trees, like plums and peaches, are susceptible to foliar diseases and good pruning is the primary way to improve airflow and reduce disease pressure organically.
We are unable to ship this product outside the contiguous US or to California.
All Winter ‘25-’26 orders are for dormant, bare root plants and will be shipped or available for pick up in March-April ‘26.
