(Anaphalis margaritacea)

Pearly everlasting is a striking, low-growing, herbaceous perennial native to North America. Its soft, silvery green leaves and small, papery white flowers are distinct in the garden, and as their name suggests are perfect in everlasting dried flower arrangements. Pearly everlasting is hardy, easy to grow, and even tolerates drought, poor soil, and some shade. Topping out at 2-3’ tall each season, it will slowly spread to form a nice clump that looks great in any native plant garden. Pearly everlasting is attractive to pollinators and its foliage is an important spring food source for the caterpillars of Painted Lady and American Lady butterflies!

Hardiness zone: 3-8

Light: Full sun to part shade

Soil: Adaptable but prefers well drained soils with good sun exposure and a pH of 5-7.

Mature height: 1-3’

Spacing: 1-3’

Planting tips: A great plant to utilize in dry spots or rock gardens where other plants struggle. Water in well for establishment.

Growing tips: Because pearly everlasting is a host plant and important food source for caterpillars in the spring, you will notice shoots becoming tattered and damaged from feeding during the first year or two of establishment. This may slow early growth but plants will prevail and be less affected as by feeding as they grow. In the meantime it will be nice seeing how quickly your new native plant is supporting native butterflies!

We are unable to ship this product outside the contiguous US or to California.

All Winter ‘25-’26 orders are for dormant, bare root plants and will be shipped or available for pick up in March-April ‘26.
