Mulberries (Scion Wood)
This listing is for a scions, meant for grafting.
Mulberry scions may also be used as dormant cuttings, but many cultivars tend to be difficult to root, so grafting onto seedling rootstocks usually results in greater success and plant vigor. We have had good results simply grafting on volunteer white mulberry seedlings that pop up along our fields and fence lines. Mulberries are fast growers and grafted trees will usually start producing within 2-3 years.
Illinois Everbearing: A personal favorite and the standard against which other mulberries are compared. Illinois Everbearing provides sweet, juicy berries all summer, with fruit ripening continuously from July through September. Self fertile and extremely productive. Ripens early July - mid-September.
Kokuso: Large, sweet dark berries all summer. A slightly shorter harvest window than Illinois Everbearing, but a slightly hardier tree. Exceptionally large leaves are protein rich and beloved by our sheep.
Silk Hope: Sweet, delicious berries on a vigorous tree. Very similar to Illinois Everbearing, but more resistant to popcorn disease if that is a problem in your area.
Oscar: A concentrated crop mulberry, where all fruit ripens in a small window. Extra juicy berries make Oscar great for mulberry juice and wine, since entire branches of ripe berries can be shaken or stripped onto a tarp and harvested in bulk.
We are unable to ship this product outside the contiguous US or to California.
All scions and cuttings will be shipped in late March or early April with any bare root plants in your order. If you would like scions or cuttings in February or March, please place a separate order with only the scions or cuttings (no plants) and add your shipping window preference in the “special instructions” section at checkout.
