Goumi Berry (Scion Wood)
This listing is for a scion, meant for grafting.
(Elaeagnus multiflora)
Goumi is a close, well-behaved relative of autumn olive. It produces heavenly, vanilla scented flowers followed by copious amounts of sweet, tart berries in early summer. Full of antioxidants, the berries are considered a superfood, with 17x more lycopene than tomatoes and seeds that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Like autumn olive, goumi is a nitrogen fixing plant that can tolerate and improve poor soils, making it a great companion plant for fruit and nut trees. Unlike autumn olive, goumi maintains a single bush habit and does not sucker or spread from the roots to colonize an area; seeds are also difficult to germinate, so these two qualities distinguish it from its invasive relative. One exciting fact about this relation is that goumi can be grafted onto existing autumn olive plants, bearing in mind that suckers need to be mowed to prevent the spread of the autumn olive rootstock.
Sweet Scarlet: A tall bush with high yields of medium berries that are perfectly sweet/tart when fully ripe.
Red Gem: Heavy producer of small, round sweet tart berries on a more compact bush.
We are unable to ship this product outside the contiguous US or to California.
All scions and cuttings will be shipped in late March or early April with any bare root plants in your order. If you would like scions or cuttings in February or March, please place a separate order with only the scions or cuttings (no plants) and add your shipping window preference in the “special instructions” section at checkout.
