Set it and forget it! 100% Recycled HDPE plastic and UV-resistant, tubes greatly increase survival rates and tree seedling growth by creating a greenhouse environment. 5’ is a good height to prevent deer browsing as it is just out of their reach even on a hill, and is a perfect height for the first scaffold branches of many fruit and nut trees to allow mulch and mow maintenance below. Mulched up to the tube with wood chips, these tubes have also eliminated rodent pressure on our trees in winter. They are designed to remain on the tree for several years until the trunk fills out the tube. Tubes can be cut vertically when removed and then reused! Included with tubes are 2 heavy-duty removable/reusable zip ties.
We do not provide stakes but recommend heavy duty wooden or metal stakes. We use 5’-6’ metal T-posts for their strength to protect trees from deer and sheep rubbing, but we hammer off the T plate at the bottom of the stake before planting so they can eventually be pulled out without catching the tree roots that are growing around them.
