Coral Bark Willow (Bare Root)

from $8.00
Size:

(Salix alba ‘britzensis’)

An easy growing, attractive willow with bright, beautiful red branches that turn deep crimson in the dormant season. The vibrant branches shine in winter landscape as well as dried flower arrangements. Coral Bark is a hardy, fast growing willow that does well when coppiced, pollarded, or pruned regularly as a vigorous shrub in hedges and windbreaks.

Hardiness zone: 2-9

Light: Full sun to part shade

Soil: Adaptable but prefers consistently moist to wet soils with pH below 7.5

Mature height: 25’

Spacing: Varies by use, can be as close as 8-10” apart for thin, flexible whips for weaving, 3-5’ apart for a dense hedge, or 15-20’ apart for a larger tree.

Planting tips: Willow roots spread far, so it is advised to not plant too close to structures or utility lines. Consistent watering is crucial for newly planted trees to help minimize transplant shock and establish strong roots.

Growing tips: Be sure to maintain adequate moisture for the first year. Coppicing can be done in late winter while the tree is dormant, usually by the second growing season. Cut several inches above the ground and new shoots will sprout in the spring.

We are unable to ship this product outside the contiguous US or to California.

All orders are for Fall 2025 and will be shipped in October-November. Ordering closes November 1st. Live plants will be shipped bare root and dormant.
