New Jersey Tea (Potted)

from $10.50
Size:

(Ceanothus americanus)

New Jersey Tea is a small but mighty native plant. At about 3’ high and wide at maturity, it is covered in delicate white flower clusters in summer. Its blooms are always buzzing as their small nutritious flowers are very attractive to pollinators and beneficial insects. NJ Tea is also one of our few native nitrogen fixing shrubs, making it an excellent choice to improve poorer soils or as a companion plant. Shiny leaves can be steeped for tea and have historically been used as a black tea substitute.

Hardiness zone: 4-9

Light: Full sun to part shade, but more sun will result in more flowers

Soil: Adaptable but prefers well drained soils with pH 5.5-7.5

Mature size: 3’ tall x 3’ wide

Planting tips: Consistent watering is crucial for newly planted trees to help minimize transplant shock and establish strong roots. Buttonbush does not tolerate dry soils.
