A highly ornamental native shrub with clusters of bright purple berries in the fall, known to attract migrating birds. This is a fast growing, adaptable plant native to warmer zones of eastern North America. After harsh winters in its more northern range, stems may die back to the ground but will re-sprout vigorously in the spring and still produce flowers and ornamental berries the same year.
Hardiness zone: 6-11
Light: Full sun to part shade
Soil: Grows best in organic soils but very adaptable to soil type and any pH between 4-7.5
Mature size: 3-6’ but can reach 8-10’ in warmer climates
Planting tips: Consistent watering is crucial for newly planted trees to help minimize transplant shock and establish strong roots.
